AMEP Featuring Some Interesting Statistics on Gender

As some of you may already know AMEP 2 is nearing the end of its’ program life cycle.  In saying this we are in the process of sharing some exciting facts and results from our activities including research findings, survey results, and other key information about our program activities over the last several years.

In 2022-2023 a rapid assessment and survey was undertaken on the AMEP 2’s Gender, Inclusion and Human Rights (GIHR) on-line training program that was created in 2021-2022.  This on-line e-learning program targeted extractive sector employees and managers with an aim to encourage gender, inclusion and human rights awareness and sensitivity while on the job.  A pilot was implemented in June 2022 that saw some 200 industry employees take the 7-Module program.  In December 2022, a total of 1,068 people enrolled in the GHRI online training with over 14 companies participating in the program.

To encourage further uptake AMEP has continued to focus its attention on this important topic through on-going monitoring and evaluation and outreach of the program 2022-2023.  A survey and key informant interviews revealed some interesting findings on the status of GIHR in the extractives sector.

These highlighted that some 62% of companies surveyed and interviewed in the extractives had some type of mention in their induction trainings regarding GIHR, mostly however focused on internal policies in gender and on labor rights, which are driven by Mongolia’s legal framework as opposed to ESGs or Environmental, Social and Governance frameworks and reporting initiatives. Other findings revealed that 56% had some type of company policy that highlighted GIHR and that they also have some type of grievance handling mechanisms to address complaints if they arise regarding GIHR.
